Technology in mattresses moves on all the time so the key is to choose the best you can afford. Remember you'll be spending up to a third of your life in bed so the right mattress is a major investment! The most comfortable and best looking beds start with great foundations.
Hypnos are the main supplier of White Company mattresses and have been practicing and perfecting the art of making luxury pocket spring beds by hand since Edwardian days and have held the Royal Warrant since 1929. With over 100 years of bed making experience their philosophy and commitment focuses on the pursuit of perfection and the delivery of a deep, energising night's sleep.
Open coil
Open coil mattresses are made from rows of individual springs, with more 'give' than pocket springs. The fairly simple construction of the open coil mattress means that it is one of the most cost-effective on the market.
Pocket sprung
In a pocket spring mattress the springs are sewn into individual fabric pockets. They provide better support for your body as each coil absorbs the weight individually. The top layers can vary from cotton felt and lamb's wool to the finest cotton felt with cashmere.

Dorset Mattress, FROM £325
The Dorset is a reactive pocket sprung mattress which provides great body support and comfort. The spring unit is covered in a layer of rebound cotton and polyester fibre mix and then a layer of anti allergenic fibre. It has a vertically stitched border to add great strength and shape retention. For ease of moving and turning the mattress it has padded handles on both sides and is covered in a white viscose and cotton fabric for a fresh finish. The nickel air vents ensure that the mattress breaths and maintains a fresh and dry sleeping environment.

Pocket Sprung Mattress Ranges
Cheltenham Mattress, FROM £495
The Cheltenham is a reactive pocket sprung mattress. It has a pocket sprung unit providing a medium/ firm support, and is layered, first with a rebound polyester cotton blend to add to a deep layer of softness, and second with luxuriously soft lamb's wool which is great for keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer, topped with an anti allergenic white fibre which is ultra soft and very resilient. There are 2 rows of hand side stitching, giving great edge support and padded handles on both sides for ease of moving and turning. The nickel air vents ensure that the mattress breaths and maintains a fresh and dry sleeping environment.

Pocket Sprung Mattress Ranges
Cadogan Mattress, FROM £1,250
The most luxurious mattress we've found, the Cadogan has a very high spring count and luxury fillings. The layers of this ultimate mattress consist of a cotton and white fibre blend, cashmere soft lamb's wool and silk-visco elastic memory foam (which contours to the body shape, whilst retaining a luxury feel) and an anti-microbial non-allergenic white fibre. The Cadogan mattress also has 3 rows of hand side stitching which provides real edge to edge support and maintains the mattress in perfect shape, this as well as the traditionally hand tufted wool, are all signs of a truly well made mattress.

Shropshire Mattress, FROM £185
Our Shropshire mattress has an open coil sprung unit for comfortable firmness, great body support and durability. It has a medium/ firm feel and inside the open coil spring unit it is layered with a cotton pad and then polyester and cotton fibre mix on top, secured with hand tufted felt tufts to ensure long life and resilience. It is covered with 100% cotton, gold stripe ticking fabric.

The Pocket Sprung cot bed mattress with encased springs for superior support, is layered with luxury foam. It has a washable, air permeable quilted cover.

Middleton Truckle Mattress, FROM £175
Our Middleton mattress has an open coil spring unit for comfortable firmness, great body support and durability and the springs are layered with a cotton and white fibre blend providing a deep layer of comfort. It's finished with traditional hand tufting ensuring long life and resilience, securing all of the layers. Our Middleton mattress comes covered in lovely 100% cotton, gold stripe ticking fabric. This design is specifically designed to be the correct depth to fit into our under bed truckle, perfect for a sleepover.

Your White Company mattress is skillfully made in the UK and generously upholstered with high quality materials. After 10 years a mattress will have experienced 30,000 hours of use and will deteriorate by up to 70% from new.
Follow these tips to make sure your mattress lasts as long as possible:
- Turn the mattress over, side to side and head to foot alternately; ideally once a week for the first three months, and then once a month.
- Let the mattress have a good airing on a regular basis, simply leave the bed linen turned back for a few hours.
- Brush the surface of the mattress to keep it clear of dust, dirt and fluff. Do not vacuum as this may damage the fillings.
- Consider using a good quality mattress protector under your bed linen.
- Please remember not to fold or roll the mattress, even if for a short period of time. All interior spring mattresses should be kept flat at all times.
- Avoid putting anything such as plastic sheeting, or a plastic bag, between the mattress and the divan. Doing so will only cause damage through trapped condensation.
- Avoid sitting regularly right on the edge of the bed, this will place undue strain on the edge springs and could damage the sides.
- Avoid standing on or jumping on either the mattress or base.
- Avoid using your mattress on an unsuitable or imperfect base, as doing so will result in the premature ageing of the mattress.
