In the making: Savoy
Crafted by some of the best textile producers using one of the world’s finest materials, discover the story behind our iconic, bestselling bed-linen collection.
The feel
Different weaves and treatments can completely change the way fabrics feel on the skin. Cotton percale is tightly woven to produce crisp, smooth material that combines softness and strength. It’s this technique that gives the Savoy collection a beautiful drape that allows it to sit just-so on the bed.
The fabric
One of the world’s finest cottons, Egyptian cotton has extra-long staple fibres. Cotton with short staple fibres is great for everyday cotton products, but longer fibres produce a softer and more long-lasting fabric. Side-by-side, you can really feel the difference. What makes Egyptian cotton so special, is that it gets harvested by hand and the use of defoliants and chemicals is avoided to ensure the excellent quality of the raw material. This material then gets woven into an ultra-smooth 400-thread-count Egyptian-cotton percale that’s very use-resistant.
The details
For nearly 10 years, we’ve been working with a small, family-run artisanal supplier to craft our finished bed linens. They’re based in the north of Portugal, an area that’s home to some of the top textile producers in all of Europe. With decades of experience combining traditional and innovative techniques, they’re passionate about the development and pursuit of excellence. Once pieces are sewn, each pillowcase and duvet cover is finished with cording – a thin row of machine embroidery that is stitched along the edge – in a choice of colours. It’s this small attention to detail that sets our bed linen apart.
