How to dress a spring table
Simple touches, delicate decorations and seasonable blooms are all you need to create an easy-but-effective setting.
1. Set the scene
Laying a table is like wrapping a present – it adds a preliminary layer of ceremony to a meal, before your guests even sit down. Even if you’re only serving one course (or main and pudding), place a starter plate on top of the dinner plate when you set the table, to create a neat pile with the placemat. It builds a sense of occasion.

2. Add the essentials
A tablecloth is negotiable – this setting would look just as lovely, and slightly more casual, laid directly onto the table. Napkins, on the other hand, are essential. A design with delicate, embroidered detail means you do not have to worry about styling them – simply fold to show the embroidery, for maximum impact.

3. Bring spring inside
To keep the setting casual and intimate, use tall, slender candles and low floral displays, so your guests can easily see each other, and passing plates around is easy. We’ve hand-tied these small, short-stem posies and placed them in breakfast bowls that match the crockery.

4. Finishing touches
For spring celebrations and Easter feasts, we love a little novelty touch – but it’s easy to keep it elegant and grown-up. Choose all-glass decorations, which you can either hang from branches arranged in a tall vase on the mantelpiece, or simply place one on each setting for a playful touch.
