CHRISSIE'S WINTER RITUALS

Look forward to the season ahead with our founder’s top tips from her new book, The Art Of Living With White.

1.

Create a welcoming ambience

“Fill the house with candlelight – whether glowing tealights, tall, elegant pillars or seasonal scented candles – to lift our spirits, as well as our rooms. My favourite notes include everything from cinnamon, clove, orange, and myrrh through to eucalyptus, pine, cognac and smoked woods.”

2.

Get ready for visitors

“I love to prepare our guest bedrooms, and my checklist always includes a pretty water carafe and glass, sleep pillow spray and a sprig of flowers beside the bed. A hot-water bottle and a soft throw on a beautifully made bed make guests feel special, and I always add recent magazines, a robe and hairdryer.”

3.

Keep things tactile

“Adding in extra-warm layers ensures your home feels beautifully dressed for Winter. Pile soft velvets and faux furs, as well as warm sheepskins and super-soft textural knits, on sofas, benches, chairs and beds.”

4.

Elevate with extras

“In our guest bathrooms, I enjoy adding nurturing bathtime treats, piles of soft towels and a scented candle, along with a basket of might-need essentials (often collected from hotel stays), such as cotton wool, a toothbrush, toothpaste, razor and sewing kit.”

5.

Fill spaces with foliage

“At this time of year, I love everything from potted heathers, Winter pine needles and rustic branches through to white ranunculi, hyacinths, and tall sculptural amaryllis. Small pots of trailing ivy are also wonderful for table-centre displays.”
