The secret to layering lighting
As the days grow shorter, good lighting comes into its own. Rather than relying on one main source, build a room in layers – combining lamps, candlelight and delicate points of illumination at different heights. The result is softer, warmer and instantly more inviting. We show you how…
Start with lamps
Think beyond the overhead. A table lamp beside the sofa, another on a console and a smaller light tucked into a darker corner will create gentle pools of warmth around the room.
Tip: Our new rechargeable lighting brings a warm glow to spaces, with no wires in sight. Think sculptural table lamps and wall lights with rechargeable bulbs.
Bring in candlelight
Nothing changes the mood quite like a flickering flame. Mix tall dinner candles with lower pillar candles and tealights, grouping them together at different heights for a relaxed, atmospheric glow – the more, the merrier.
Tip: Odd-numbered groupings often feel more natural – try three or five candlesticks in varying heights along a mantel or console.
A little Christmas magic
Fairy lights aren’t just for the tree. Weave delicate strands through greenery, trail them along a mantel or dinner table to bring a subtle festive glow to overlooked corners.
Tip: We prefer warm-white lights for their soft, flattering glow – they create a more sophisticated atmosphere and sit beautifully alongside candlelight.
Make greenery glow
An illuminated wreath brings instant warmth wherever you hang it. Go beyond the front door and try one above a fireplace, on an internal door or around a pillar candle holder.
Tip: Illuminated greenery looks beautiful near reflective surfaces that catch and scatter the lights and amplify the overall glow.
